Route 66

Back in February, I threw my Canon camera in my truck, kitted with a $12 plastic Holga lens, filled the tank with gas and spent a day driving down Missouri Highway 96 from Springfield to Carthage, which happens to be a nice section of old Route 66. This was right before Covid started to hit the area and it was a crisp cold day to be out. Sometimes, it's really nice to just jump in a vehicle and head off down the road for a day by yourself. You can take your time looking at the most minute of things and gather your thoughts, listen to some antiquated music and just be.

Some of these pics were taken out at the fictitious town of Red Oak II, owned by artist Lowell Davis who passed away on Monday. I've been going out that way for over 25 years to visit the little plot of land he seeded with Depression Era buildings and other old things. I'm hoping he put a trust in place to keep it going. It's one of my favorite folksy places to visit in our area.
