Bike to Work Week
This week has been Bike to Work Week here in Springfield, MO. As a way of making some free publicity for the week-long event and Ozark Greenways, the Springfield Sunrise Coffee & Bicycle Club met for five straight mornings. I also managed to participate in the work commuting side all five days. I have ridden a total of 71.3 miles since Monday morning and I have a short 1.3 mile trip home planned this evening. It's the first time I've managed to participate all five days. It's been a lot of fun. We've also had a great turnout for coffee every morning. I'm pretty spent, though, having gotten up at ten till 5am each morning to make a ride across town for sunrise.
Monday: Jefferson Avenue Foot Bridge on Historic Commercial Street.
Tuesday: Nathanael Greene Park, Lake Drummund Spillway with a side trip to Classic Rock Coffee. My Masi was in the shop, so I rode my 60-year-old Hercules 3-speed
Wednesday: Jordan Valley Park with a side trip to Kingdom Coffee & Cycles
Thursday: Galloway Greenway Iron Bridge and return via B2 (Bambino's) Coffee & Smoothie
Friday: Downtown Springfield!
It was a great week. I nearly hit a couple of deer when passing through the Nature Center area, countless rabbits, a chipmunk in my neighborhood and I had an owl scare the crap out of me as it launched itself from a tree I was passing, it was pretty awesome! Yesterday also marked the one year anniversary of me forming the group. The first ride out it was just me and one other guy. Now we have 171 Facebook group members with about two dozen actively participating. Not too bad.
